Anyone know how to remove the ignition switch from the dash of a '65 f-100? I'm sure their is a simple trick, but I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks.
What works for me is turn key to accessory position. Take a paper clip and insert it in the pin hole on the face of the key cylinder then turn the key counter clockwise. The cylinger should come out. If you want to remove the ignition which, then hold the ignition switch from the back, push in on the ignition bezel and turn counter clockwise. The ignition switch should come out.
Glad i don't have to make sense of these instructions. Anyhow, good luck,
dave

Good post Dave, you will have to remove the cylinder first to be able to seperate the sides. The spring is pretty stout and you'll have to push hard to twist it out.
Another caution, just because you get the cylinder turned fully counter clockwise doesn't mean it will come out. I had one that would not come out and I had to drill it with a 1/4" drill bit. Go very slowely checking often when you get about 1" in because you can go past the cylinder and damage the housing cup.
I ordered new chrome bezel and new switch and now key is hard to turn! Seems like repros are a little longer than original and the center cylinder is too short and rubs too much. I dont know if I can fix or not
Not an authority by no means, but wonder if the cylinder can be installed in more than one position. Have found i needed to preset the cylinder before inserting into switch for it to work properly.
After jcs post, went and checked key cylinder just purchased on ebay. Looks identical to the original and works perfectly. Years of purchasing repo stuff, finally started returning items if not same as origninal. Aware may be exceptions. Also, somewhat selective where purchase certain items.
Anyhow, thought would put in my $.02.

Just rereading and wanted to point out you DONT turn chrome bezel becuase it fits into slots on the dash, you turn the part inder dash. It seems like the two tabs that fit into the two slots arnt at the correct position and the spring pushes these two pieces too far apart and then the actual keyed clyinder is "stretched" and rubs too much even with WD40 applied. I dont know how to fix becuase both pieces are pot metal and I am afriad tapping with hammer will crack
