Snow Chain recommendation

Looking for a recommendation for tire chains. Snow only-no mud. Occasional use for > 8% grade. No highway use, gonna be used to get up and down from the ridge line. Some gravel but mostly paved.

Thanks

Heavy chain ones (not like the quick install Les Schwab ones). Anything else can break under that stress, wrap around your axle, and break your brake lines leaving you stranded in the snow. The ones with welded bars will give you even more stability. Don't forget the rubber adjusters.

I had the tire cables for my truck when I went to the mountains to snowboard. Used them for a few seasons. They worked fine for me. Was able to make a new driveway after heavy snowfall at my buddy's house without breaking traction.

Spikes-Spider Swiss chains

Takes a minute to install after the mounting plate is on the wheel (once each season.)

New they come with a two year warranty, and are easily repaired if they do break. I have them on 3 vehicles, including my Excursion. I used them on a one ton van towing a 6K trailer, no issues. I even have the hubs installed on the rear axle of a tandem trailer!

$700 bucks for chains? I paid less than half that, for 4 sets off Craigs List. 3 were brand new. Most owners of them don't realize what they have.

Going uphill with tire chains can put a lot of stress on chains, I broke one in 10 minutes one time and almost got stranded on an old logging road. It took me an hour to untangle it from being wrapped around my brake caliper. You can find them on Ebay this time of the year, I used to sell them in there for peanuts.

I bought two sets at autozone in CO for my wrangler they work great, came with canvas bag for each pair.
We have used then about 4-5 times to get in/out of our place at 8800 ft.

The key is get correct size for tires, practice putting them on using the spare, and be very sure you have clearance at full steering lock , and the elastic tighteners are on tight. Readjust after driving.

I use the heavy duty cable "S" class type. Not climbing though.

Going uphill in snow takes all the chain you can get and if it is too steep or deep they won't even work.

The bigger the links the better off road they are. But a square link of a "v" bar chain works the best IMO
