I am in the market for a winter tire for my 01 f150 4x4. driving conditions are ice and snow. I live in an area where there is a lot of snow. Any recommendations.
We don't get as much snow, but I'm partial to the BFG MT's and AT's. The MT's are obviously more aggressive and may be more what you are looking for. I like the AT's as an all around great tire.
If you want better snow/ice performance than an A/T you can get Bridgestone Blizzacks in a 265-70-17 (probably a little bigger than stock, should fit though). The downside is you need to swap nonsnow tires on once winter's over. AT's will do a fair job in snow and handle better on dry pavement, but Blizzaks are MUCH better in ice. AT's can stay on all year though. If you get A/T's I would suggest the Revos as well. I assume your truck has 255-70-17's from the factory? Not aware of any snows in that exact size.
I'm a Texas boy, but got to play w/ my uncles Tahoe last winter (in Illinois) and feel the ice performance w/ snow tires vs. the BFG's (Long Trails I believe). The difference (especially braking/going around corners) was amazing. I second the Tirerack reccomendation also.
