I've done the 6 Amp charger paralleled with the block heater mod before, and an electric battery blanket. Really the batteries are what does the cranking anyway, the block heater just makes it a bit easier.
If you start hacking the block heater cord, you'll notice that you can actually separate the plug end of the cord from the rest of the cable assembly - GENIUS idea as you see how many cars driving around with replacement cord ends because the original molded plug broke off. This means you can simply buy a cord plug end from Ford and still be able to revert to the regular plug if need be.
I've idled my truck all day on site for like 13 hours. Not taking a chance letting it get cold when you have no power on site or any buildings set up yet, your truck IS your office, lunchroom, and sometimes bedroom.
