With -37C and -50C with windchill today, I tried starting my truck after being plugged in all night, and it was a no-go. Sounded like the starter turned over but didnt engage. On another note, what is with the glow plug light? mine lights up for a few seconds, maybe, then nothing. Today was the first time it ever stayed on for 5 seconds, and that was only after i tried cranking it over twice. First two times it didnt stay on.
I think my block is still maybe too cold, maybe dead batteries too, and yes the block heater had power made sure to check that, I notice my passenger side battery has some corrosion ontop (1000watt amp hooked into drivers side) so maybe I am needing better batteries.
Usually fires right up, havent noticed a problem lately either starting.
Gonna let it warm up some more, and I put a charger on the truck too, gonna go check the battery voltages and see what it says. This is the coldest yet I have tried to start the truck.
Yep Darren looks like your right! Batteries tested 11.2, now they are charging and the truck is cranking over, but dang slow. Leave it sit some more.
Thats an impressive video! truck started pretty good I have given it some thought to buy battery blankets, and even permanently mount a trickle charger on my truck. Donno though maybe just a good set of batteries to handle to amp, and a good cold start would be the solution.

The odyssey batteries are pricey (especially when you have to buy two). But they are great batteries. I run a couple of 1,000 W amps and I have had no issues since I put them in (the batteries, I think about a year ago). Start great in cold temps.
Stay warm
You too brm
I managed to sneak in an hour on the sled when it warmed up to -25
I'm in southern Alberta with the same temps but I have a 2012 6.2. Mine started today but I did realize that my block heater doesn't work so maybe your is also on the fritz. This was the first time I have ever tried to use the block heater on it.
Those Odyssey batteries are great, they're the same AGM technology as Enersys' industrial battery offerings that I deal with for telecom (48VDC) and switchgear (120VDC) applications, but packaged in BCI automotive sizes. In any case, pretty much any aftermarket battery is better than the OEM ones that come with the truck, mine were leaking pretty badly out of the terminal posts.
If the truck is a 2011 model still with OEM batts it's time to change them, now whether or not you want to spend upwards of $300 each on a battery is up to you but any quality "maintenance free flooded" or AGM battery will be a major improvement. I would choose either of those over traditional pop-top flooded because automotive duty is always going to be hard on batteries, so you won't see a 20-year life span out of them like you might see with flooded cells in a stationary battery string application.
My OEM batteries are going downhill fast. 43 months.
They've been slowly leaking for two years and this morning after sitting for two days it was weak starting in the cold weather.
Dash lights flashed 3-4 times and it turned over.
Thanks guys! Yep batteries are on their last leg I'd say! Got the truck started, let it run for an hour and then shut it off, should start again now, seems that that cold spell really hurt those batteries. Gonna be buying a new set here, Darren what kinda remote start do you have in your truck? I am looking at buying this smartphone remote starter kit, but anyone got a price on it?
Sears Die-Hard Platinum are made by Odyssey, and they are indeed fantastic. You can kill them, but you have to try REALLY hard.
X2 - put in a pair of these this summer. Not sure if they are exactly the same as the Odyssey batteries, but if not, they are nearly identical.
Sears Die Hard Platinum P2 - can't find them anywhere on the web anymore - not sure why?
Similar in Canada is the Canadian Tire MotoMaster Eliminator Ultra XD AGM, but I see their price went up. $299 each X2. Might be able to price out a couple of Odyssey AGM's for close to it

I have the basic ford key fob one. You pretty much have to be in the turck for it to start, the range is not great.... but I am usually not too far away form it.
X3 on the AGM bat's. I put them in everything when the OEM wears out: boats; trucks; RV; etc. You can drain them and they bounce right back (try that with a lead-acid); they are stable and can withstand a pounding; they can withstand incredibly low temps without dishcharging (something like -40f). They are well worth the $$.
and....I sincerely hope NEVER to be ANYWHERE that freakin' cold!!! You guys are NUTS!!! Jim
