That is impressive. Darren, your 6.7 started quicker at -35C than my 7.3 used to start at +35C!
When my current batteries die, I plan on getting Odyssey's. I left a motorbike for 2years, no charging, no starting, the worst thing you can do for a battery - first press of the starter, and it turned over fine with an Odyssey. I also have averaged 6-8 years of life out of them, instead of the 3-4 you get out of the standard batteries, not to mention all the other benefits (more AH, quicker charging etc.)
Regarding the glow plug light: as I understand it, at least on my 2013, the light is on while they are pre-heating or something, and then goes off; i.e., don't crank until the light goes off.
^yup^ They are ceramic tipped plugs in the 6.7, and they hit almost 2500 F, and are right next to the cylinder, so they work so much more effective than previous glow plugs. They only operate for 2s

It's also my understanding the computer can cycle the glow plugs as needed even after the light is off.
I gotta say i was impressed with my 6.7 this weekend. Mine came without block heater and we dipped to -25f Saturday when I went to start it. Cycled the glow plugs and it fired right off. Needless to say I've ordered the heater to add since I don't like starting it that cold, but good to know it will!
Wow thanks for the glow plug information! I am still used to 6.5L chevs, let the glow plugs run for 8 seconds and hit the key, none of this just turned the key and didnt see the light stuff haha. More and more impressed by fords design of this truck everyday to be honest.
I found the remote starter kit smartphone install kit on ford accessories for $400, is that right? seems very cheap! If it is that much I'm gonna phone my dealer tomorrow and order it in. Sick of going outside, or getting back to a cold truck, though it does get warm in the cab quick still nice to have a warm engine and just leave

I have remote start, and it is nice, but this new truck get warm no where near as quick as my old 7.3. I have the run duration maxed out at 15 min and it is still not really warm after that. Needs another 5 or 10min., but oh well just another couple pushes of a button.

Some people may not know... on the ford key fob remote start. If you push lock and 2x again before it shuts off it will re set and give you another 15 min without shutting off. Basically you can get almost 1/2 hour (if you time it right ) If I am taking the family I do this... with the winter front it is not bad in about 25 min.
Yes I usually don't torture my truck by starting it at -35C not plugged in but sure is nice to know that it will start. There are a few times a year (work or sledding) that I can't plug it in. Nice not to have to worry about it or let it run all night.

Nice to know. Guess I didnt really think about it.
Thanks D
Thanks guys! Yep batteries are on their last leg I'd say! Got the truck started, let it run for an hour and then shut it off, should start again now, seems that that cold spell really hurt those batteries. Gonna be buying a new set here, Darren what kinda remote start do you have in your truck? I am looking at buying this smartphone remote starter kit, but anyone got a price on it?
I AM SURE OTHER HAVE TOLD YOU THIS
DONT let it run for an hour
That isn’t good at all…...

I've idled my truck all day on site for like 13 hours. Not taking a chance letting it get cold when you have no power on site or any buildings set up yet, your truck IS your office, lunchroom, and sometimes bedroom.

Yeah I idle my truck lots as well, when its that cold it kicks up into high idle anyways. Batteries needed a good charge, and I hate to shut trucks off before they are warmed up too. I had a friend left his running all day at the farm, cause they had bin fans, tractors, semis, you know usual farm noise, and he walked past it several times that day and didnt hear it until night, now his truck has 90K on it. Idling is a whole nother thread though.
I have given some thought to permanently mounting a trickle charger into my batteries and tie it into my block heater cord. We've had a lot of batteries on the farm fail after that -50 weather last week, and usually we trickle charger them and they are fine after that.
Anyone put a bigger block heater in these trucks? They start so nice, it seems kinda pointless, but stock block heater is 900 or 1000 watt? I have put circulating 1500watt heaters in a couple older pick ups, and that is really nice! But might be a bit harder to find a spot to tie in a circulating heater on these trucks.
Tonight I had my brakes freeze too, I warmed it up, hoped in, went to stop at the end of the driveway and it took about 30 feet to stop :O turned around grabbed a flashlight from the shop and found my brakes had a fair bit of ice on them, they thawed out on the way to town and are good now, sure scared me at first! thought I broke a break line doing my lift kit.
