So I have noticed a small puddle forming over the past week or so of oil under my truck. Yesterday it was alot worse, very large puddle. I traced it back to the bolt on my hpop, pulled it off and replaced the o-ring that was obviously shot. Fixed the leak, added some oil and drove it for about 5-10 min. leak was fixed. This was all around midnight. So this morning i start my truck and the check engine light came on. pulled codes p1211, 1280, p0475, but drove fine. then i leave work for lunch and it starting bucking like a bull ,so i pull over to side and truck died and would start up again but buck like crazy. I figured i knocked something loose so started truck and fidgeted around with plugs etc... i unplugged the icp and truck idled fine and then drove fine. will it hurt to drive with it unplugged, right now is a bad time for it to go out if thats it, cant afford another right now.
Double check your oil level including the HPOP reservoir. ICP is as simple to change as a spark plug on a gasser only with great access. Screw it out, screw it in. In the short term "Assuming" it's is in fact the ICP, you should be fine with it unplugged. Just remember it is commanding by default higher than normal pressure constantly. Couldn't tell ya if that was good or bad, just not normal.
First off when you pulled the plug off your sensor did you happen to notice any oil in the electrical connection? If so you should change it. It's a temporary fix to drive with it unplugged. Like reckless said check your oil levels again. It won't hurt to check the oil level at the top of the hpop, it should be around a half inch from the top.
Also what kind and weight of oil are you using and the temperature where you live? The wrong weight can cause the truck to "romp" in cold weather until the engine warms the oil up enough.
Reckless, are you sure unplugging will command higher pressures? Based off my "research" in the past, unplugging the ICP will default the PCM to a lower pressure "safe mode". I believe the OP is fine to run it like this for a little while if absolutely necessary. Someone else may have more input on that however.
If there's oil in the connector as was already mentioned, I'd replace it with a Motorcraft unit soon though.

There are different defaults depending on oil temp (I am told).
I have only ever seen one default setting on my truck, but I havent tested it in a variety of temperatures, and that is 724psi at idle. Actual ICP at idle is around 500psi. So it does default to a higher ICP.
When cold, the PCM sets the ICP to 700. As the truck warms, the PCM lowers the ICP gradually to 500... those are the idle pressures. When you unplug the ICP, the PCM will tell the IPR to aim for 2200 ICP and keep it there. This can make an "aggressive" idle, but it's good enough to drive with... just don't try to go racing or pull a steep grade with a heavy load and make good time.
ok, checked oil level, it was lowso added oil. drove fine for about 5 miles. Then started bucking like crazy again and died. I got it started and finaly got it home (kicking like crazy most of the time, got worse when i slowed down.) I looked under the hood and saw the harness that plugs into thevalve cover on the driver side has some bare wires like they meted. Did the 50 cent mod awhile back, and i guess if i can remember right thats sort of how it would act when the uvch plug came loose (reason i did $.50 mod). could the melted bare wires be the whole issue? It would not start this morning. (I wasnt going to drive it, just checking)
Ok, so I need a new pigtail that plugs into the valve cover. I was able to pull and seperate the wire that were touching and that had melted coating. I used the liquid electrical tape. and truck started fine, and is now running fine again (with the icp plugged in) So kinda a best case scenerio I guess.
Best case scenario is you do do all that and it works. Worse case is it's your uvch after all that work. You would be able to tell if you ran dual pyros like I do
