What do I have to do to bolt a bw1356 from an e4od onto a c6? Both are 4x4 already, e4od is behind a 94 351 and the c6 has an no203 on it now and is behind a 360 FE. I know I'll have to change linkages and stuff but I want to know if it will even work. The 203 has an extremely stretched chain and since I have a c6 with a wore out 360 I can use every bit of low range possible. The 203 won't even go into low range any more actually.
the adapter plate for the E4od should be the same as the one for the C6
check the bolt pattern. i bet it is the same. i used a ZF 5 speed adapter to put the C6 in my truck.
Should be or is the same? That is quite important. I like the 1356 a lot, as it served me well in the f350 but lw range isn't THAT important to me right now.
i have never seen a transfer case adapter with a different bolt pattern. as far as i know, all ford transfer cases have the same bolt pattern, and all 4X4 transmissions have the same bolt pattern on the tailshaft.
I know the 6 bolt pattern to bolt the t-case to the adapter is the same and I know that the 31spline input is common among all ford cases(auto only I think?) but aren't the adapters different lengths? I THINK the 203 and 205 adapters are different lengths and when I googled this swap I saw nothing but people swapping 1356s for 205s and most people said that was bolt on with minor modifications. I can't afford the time to take my 203 off to see if it's the same but the 1356/e4od is siting in the bed of the truck.
Forgot to say all cases up to 96/97(obs), thanks for catching that brad. I know the bw is large and I know the 203 is large(and freakin heavy). If I can get a for sure on this I'll go ahead and do it but it I don't then I'm not. I know I'm gonna lose my speedometer but I'm good about not speeding in this truck without looking at it the speedster.
The fullsized Ford 4x4 transmissions for married transfer cases that I have seen all use the taishaft housing as the adapter.
I have trail fitted NP 208 and NP 205 transfer cases to an M5OD, and a BW 1356 to a C-6, never had a Ford 203 to try.
I have both the short and long tail shaft C6's, both originally had a 205 behind them. The long one is the original transmission in my 77½ F250, the short one came from a 78 or 79 F150 parts truck.
My guess is the hardest part (after removing the 203), will be figuring out how to mount the shifter for the 1356. Driveshaft mods will be needed.
