I have a chance for a good deal on 265 70 16 Geolander tires for my '95 250 Supercab 4x4. Will they work? Any downsides? Thank you.

 

I'm in the market for tires that are 265 75 and several of the members here have reported no problems. If you get them let us know so I can decide what size to get for my truck thanks!

 

No first hand experience here, but since they're just over an inch wider than stock (10.4" vs 9.2" for a 235/85R-16) and about an inch shorter (30.6" vs 31.7") I wouldn't think there'd be any big issues. Wider would make them more likely to rub, but shorter makes them less likely. My guess is they won't rub anywhere.

Your speedo and odometer will read about 3% faster and farther than you're really going. Probably not enough to care much about.

 

Are they 10 ply?

 

I have 265/75-16s on my '94, they don't even come close to rubbing. The only caveat is that the TTB has a tendency to wear wider tires more than narrow ones. I didn't put the tires on, they came with the truck; I would have put on 235/85-16s as I prefer a narrower tread to get better bite in snow and it puts less stress on the steering. But since they only had 8k miles on them when I bought the truck, I'll just have to live with them. They'll probably dry rot off the truck before getting worn out.

 

And FYI, 265/75R-16 are 10.4" wide and 31.6" tall, so same height as stock but 1" wider (or same width as 265/70R-16 but 1" taller).

 

Be careful of that tire. That is CAR tire size and they are typical "P"(passenger) rated. They are NOT for a TRUCK. You want an "LT"(light truck) tire
