The Round was more robust, but also not as efficient in cooling the EGR gasses. Hence the new Square cooler was designed. However, it couldn't handle 15+ degree spreads very well and wasn't constructed as robust.
Doesn't that really make it that bad? If guys truly pay attention to ECT/EOT just how many problems truly occur? It's more the guys with NO gauges towing 12,000 or running über high HP tunes that are popping coolers.
