Although standpipes, dummy plugs and STC fittings are way cheaper than replacing the HPOP.
Correct.
I think some here do not take into account that there are significatnly less early 03-04 6.0 trucks than there are 05+.
If there is even 1 2003 with an HPO issue and 7 2005+ trucks with HPO issues on the main page, statistically the 03 would still have a worse reputation.
Once the STC is updated and for that matter the Dummy Plugs, the failure rate is near zero.
An early engine can replace how many HPOP's without warning? The discharge tube on the early engines is known the fail as well.
Now with age and miles I think we are seeing an upward trend on HPO oil rail o-rings fail, not limited to any specific year.
You guys crack me up,,,, today I was driving around down town Salt Lake (oh I hate that) and I thought man am I glad I don't have those stupid coil springs and a tighter turning radius,,,,,,, said sarcastically,,,,,,, but then I looked down at my dash and thought sure and glad i don't have the newer ugly one,,,,
Then add Labor for those that pay to have it Done Throw that Cheaper thing right in the Garbage
ABout Double the Labor for those guys
Turboes Valve Covers GPCM,Alternators etc...
God Im surprised someone hasn't brought up the 1/4inch Bigger Water Pump that Saved the world but still has the Original Flaw included
I think I'll keep the cheaper thing out of the garbage as once you have replaced the above mentioned the are rock solid, and what are the chances of having an early 03-04 HPOP fail? Is there a chance if you replace one you will you will be doing it again one day?

Theres Always that chance for anything to have repeat fail
everything wears right
Give these new Standpipes and D-Plugs some time to get Miles on them But Hopefully they are Rock solid
But I would agree with you Brett the replacement HPOP for 03 could still be problematic if OEM is used since no changes have been made to it that I know of
But we have an After market option to Turn to that supposedly Bullet Proof for HPOP
But again those are going to have to get Miles to prove there worth But from what I have read about them as far as design changes it looks like there going to be a Bullet Proof option for 03
I agree with this right or wrong it does have a bad rap
it probably Does have the worst Rep But when you have a Guy trying to replace a Problematic part that He Don't even have Speaks Volumes that this Bad rap isn't just because of 03
So is it Justified??? that 03 should Shoulder all the Blame Not in my Eyes
We all know some of the Updated parts ended up Worse then what part they replaced
Now IMHO they could/SHould have installed a HPOP similar to the Diesel site one and Left it at that not change the entire system
along those lines they should have stayed with Round EGR Coolers
Those 2 things alone would have been a HUGE game changer IMO this thread wouldn't exist and the 6.0L would have a Great rep even Better then the 7.3L does for reliability and I do believe that
Wow guys. Didn't mean to spark such a debate. I was thinking of doing the EGR cooler delete someday and thought that it would be a good idea to replace what seemed to be a problematic part. When you read about a part failure and an available upgrade for it all the time I assumed it would be on the first model that came out, hence the upgrade. I don't keep a running tally on which years have the problems but I guess I better, LOL!
