urgent timing chain problem/question.

Ok I got another question

Took off my timing chain and my book and everybody else says to go dot to dot with the key facing down and to the left when at TDC

When I took the chain off the key is facing straight up. Can I safely turn the cam 180* ? Why isn't the cam key where the book says?

PICTURE.

Hey just went through a timing chain swap in my 64 P/U w/ 73 460.
So your saying it was at 180 degree of TDC. ?
I did this when I was dialing my TDC on the crank, removed everything and dialed it to (what I thought) was TDC, looked at my marks on the gears, opps. I also pulled the distributor before hand as well to install new one, I was like what? And then realized what I did. The ways of learning.
Hope it all went together for you!
Hammy

With the cam cog being exactly twice the size of the crank cog, when installed and the crank rotated 360* it rotated the cam 180* and my dots aligned dead on. Installed the balancer and it shows dead on TDC. Just something left out of the book.
