I recently purchased new door and hood hinges for my 75 F250 4X4 pickup. I have been searching for some instructions on how to properly swap them out and how to properly adjust them and the striker assembly to get the perfect fit and alignment.
Before you remove the hinges make a few placement scribe marks around the present position of the hinges on the hood and the inner fenderwell. Fine point sharpie works, makes realignment way easier.
Open hood, remove hood (2 or 3 folks make this easy), remove hinges. Re-install new hinges to old scribe marks, reinstall hood to marks, close slowly and very easy to ck alignment.
Same for the sharpie marks on the door hinges cab and door. You can use a floor jack and a 2x6 to support the door from underneath for removal, once at least 1 extra person makes this a way easier task. Remove door from hinges, then hinges from cab. Re-install in reverse order.
If you new hood hinges are zip tied closed, be careful when you cut that zip tie, they can be finger biters.
Thank you for your quick response! Your directions will be very helpfull! With this, I should be able to get the Door and Hood alignments close to original again. For the final adjustments, do you have any advice as to get it right on the money? Thanks. Pete
i use a 1/8 drill bit to make a couple alignment holes before removing anything, then when it comes time to put things back together i just stick a 1/8 bit back into the holes to align everything back up .

That's a great tip and I've seen that done before, but doesn't apply here since he's not putting the same hinge back on that he is taking off.

One of the hardest adjustments is aligning the back if the hood level with the cowl.
Most think you can lower the hinges, but that does not work. You will actually tilt the hinges to open the hood more, which when closed collapses the hinges lowering the back of the hood even with the cowl.
Sooo...
If you intall the hinges and hood and the back of the hood sits up higher than the cowl, adjust the hinge so the hood is open MORE and it should suck down more as it closes.
Also, remove the striker from the hood while doing the adjustments for the rear of the hood to lesson having to constantly reopen the hood and possible binding. Save the front latch for last.
