Just picked up a "new" hood latch for my '73 f-100. Along with some other parts i got quite a deal My old Hood latch was holding too tight causing me to push down on the hood to get it to releae, plus the handle was all bent out of whack. Anyway, Im about to install the new latch and was wondering if anyone had any tips to make the job go smoother?
It should be pretty straight forward. A couple of bolts and a few minutes to align it. No problem. Put it in as close to the original location as possible and close the hood. Adjust it left/right and up/down as needed.
Pushing down on the hood to open it is not uncommon. A little bit of lube in the right places will solve it though.
usually if your old latch has been onfor a while you can just realign you new latch to the existing marks and your hood should just snap closed like new.. but if you desire to clean the area while you have the latch apart, Id scripe around the old latch so you know where the old latch sat... other wise really easy job.. 10 minute deal...
Keep in mind there is a little up and down adjustment as you tighten the bolts. Also there are four rubber bumpers on the bottom of the hood that help locate it.
