Looks like I can replace the blue hose for the EGR cooler with out tearing the whole top of the engine off. Besides draining the coolant do I need to drain the oil too? Also is there any tricks to installing the hose?
Just the coolant. The cast cap on the oil cooler that the blue hose slides on can be removed to aid in removal of the hose. A lot of tech's will just slide the hose back on the EGR cooler, bend it up, and slide it off. IIRC it has to be turned so that the white stripe on the hose is up to disengage it from the cast cap.
It isn't too bad to do. I remove the hose and housing together, and re-install the new hose the same way.
I use a T27 socket with a 1/4" universal joint and long 1/4" extension to remove the 2 bolts in the housing cover. Then I gently pry the cover up and pull forward to remove the hose from the cooler.
Not to hi jack this thread but I have a question about the blue hose. The hose on my 06 is blue. I remember someone on here telling me once to see what color I had and replace to either red or blue if needed, but now I do not remember what the desired color is. Do I want to keep the blue hose, or is the red hose the one that I want? Thanks.
Orange was the original hose, which had issues, blue is the updated hose. Now if the blue is leaking, need to replace it. If it is not leaking, good to go!
