Most of the time, when I walk by the passenger side of my truck, I get the aroma of diesel. Last week, I looked under the hood and reaching under the fuel filter, my hand was pretty wet and the truck had been sitting for about three weeks. I have ordered a new fuel filter to do away with the water separator bowl and new o-rings for the fuel heater (I know I have a slight leak there).
My question is this:
I have not had the normal symptoms of air intrusion like rough starting or stalling after initial start. But it does seem to have some slightly rough running at highway speed (I am not that familiar with Diesels until now so that may be normal). Is that somewhat a symptom of air intrusion and is it possible to have such a leak without any air intrusion?
It should not run rough at highway speeds. I think the idi sounds smoother at higher rpm.
I would say it sounds less like air intrusion and maybe more like fuel leaking at the higher pressure (assuming you still have the mechanical fuel pump) so not getting enough fuel pressure to keep up with the increased demand for fuel at higher rpms.
When you get the new fuel filter and orings fixed hopefully it will sound smooth at higher rpms.
if you have e40d could, can have a shake at some speeds cause of the locked TC, normal fuel pressure is 1-5 psi napa sells fuel filter with out bowl 10 micron (napa gold) has water sensor port, and drain, fuel heater o rings are easy to replace, have fun.
I am not sure she is missing. It may sim,ply be the feel of the diesel /suspension and the road itself.
I changed the injectors and IP in April. Runs really smooth at idle and when timing it, it is still smooth at 2000 RPM and rpm's and advance are stable at 2K as well.
take it to a hill, hit the clutch or put it in N,and let it roll.do you think the vibration/miss feel would still be there? that will help you figure things out.
