fuel problem

hey guys buddy of mine got a 99 with about 180k on the clock. seems like when it gets up to 70mph, cruises fine but when you mash on the pedal it just kinda boggs dont go any faster just stays there... to make matters worse he ran it out of fuel. got it started but developed a miss so we replaced the fuel pump along with the fuel filter with lid just for doubts. well it took care of the bogg but now developed a fuel leak around the the filter lid. he told me it did that even with the old lid thats why he replaced it. every time it it starts to leak it starts to miss, so it misses. why would it pressure up so much that it causes it to leak? is there a some kind of fuel filter in the tank like a sock or something, that could cause the bogg? thanks Cezar...

Check the o ring around the lid and make sure it is there. Might just be loosing pressure and causing the miss.

Make sure that you have the bevel on the gasket facing the right way, it looks backward when you put it on.
