Changed fuel filter. Now start up is rough

Hey everyone I changed my fuel filter. And now when I start it up in the morning it stutters for a couple seconds. RPMs drop then normal for a few times The rest of the day it is fine. It sounds like its purging air. I purged the fuel/water drain. But that didn't help. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks Jason

check to make sure the lid is sealing. is it the OEM lid or did you get the one that comes with the lid. It sounds like something is leaking and you are losing your fuel prime somehow. look around for leaking fuel. look in the valley. you could be leaking from the fuel drain itself also.

If you didn't turn the key on, and let the pump run to fill up the bowl after you changed the fuel filter, then you might have air in the system and will take a few miles to get it out.

He may also have the gasket upside down, which could also cause a leak and/or the loss of the prime.

I usually cycle the key on two to three times whenever I change the filter to make sure that A. no leaks, and B. that the fuel bowl is nice and full. I keep the key on (no start) for about 20 seconds each cycle. You may have air in the lines and like Rick says, it takes some time to purge that out.

That's what the CCK or RR is for. It allows the air to be purged completely without having it sucked through the injectors.

I also had a rough runnin' powerstroke after filter change and I fixed mine by opening and closing(do it once and do it quickly to avoid a lot of fuel loss) the fuel bowl drain while engine was running, I guess the o-rings need to be changed. This action cleared up my rough runnin', hopefully it'll work for you. Todd
