2 Quick questions

I've got the steering wheel off

1. Cruise has never worked. Should I replace both switches? I didn't see any flaws in the wire but haven't taken off the top of the column.

2. Overdrive switch has always been in the "Off" position? Should I go pick up a shifter at pick n pull? If so, what trucks can I pull one off of?

Thanks guys! Need to drive the truck in two days!

Usually the problem is the wires for the overdrive button get chaffed inside the column and cause it to not work , not 100 percent sure but it could be the problem with the cruise to. Have you looked at the wires for the OD button.?

I haven't. Do you pull off the column cover or pull out the shifter?

Take the plastic cover off of the steering column. There are screws under the column. Inspect the wires where they enter the shift handle. It's common for the wires to wear through or break right there. You can either repair the wires or get a new shift handle for about $65 at a Ford dealer.

Sounds simple enough. Thanks for the advice! I'll tackle this tomorrow. If it helps, the cruise control also has never worked but idk if the two are related.

if that wire isn't the culprit, check your cruise control switch on the brake booster

looks like this. they typically fail and short out...sometimes ends in a fire. cheap $20 fix
