Broke part of my column shift lever

When I got work today I went to put my truck in park and broke off the end of the shifter right where the metal shaft meets the plastic piece on the end. The wires are still attached for the Overdrive button, so I think the button still works.

I can get a brand new column shift lever from autozone. But how hard is it to get the column apart to change it?

Not very hard at all, you'll un screw the trim that surrounds the column with three screw from the bottom, then which i cant remeber if that will give you enough room or not to access what you need, becuase ive always had to pull the whole column for other reasons. and if you need more room, then you remove the 2 bolts that hold the big plastic piece that the fuse panel door resides in, then you will be able to see 2 15 mm bolts that hold the column bracket to up into the dash, if you remove those you should be able to leave the steering u joint connected and just drop the column down a little bit to get you enough room to swap out levers,

I did that a few years back, and just taped it with electrical tape out of laziness. Good to know it's not so bad to fix correctly.

I wanna say it's doable without dropping the column. Vaguely remember doing it on mine... I think after you get the trim out of the way then it's just a roll pin holding the lever on to actual the shifter mechanism.

Remember to disconnect the overdrive switch wires before pulling the shifter out.

yeah very simple.no need to lower the column.that's just for other things like a broken shift tube or something.for just the handle replacement,it's all right there under the plastic.the ignition key cylinder will need to be removed to remove the plastic shroud.just turn the key forward then stick something like an awl into the small hole below and pull out.

That's how mine is right now, at least until it gets warmer(hopefully this weekend)

Sounds like it should be easy then, thanks for the help guys. Hopefully I can take care of that this weekend.
