Okay---that helps! Since you have just one way operation its not the alarm that's an issue its something in the factory chassis wiring. My guess is the larger switch block known as the "master control switch" has a loose wire or perhaps one of the contact no longer holds onto the appropriate switch terminal.
Get a schematic of the master control switch block and track down which wire is the lock function. I don't have a schematic for that year otherwise I'd be able to cite specific wire colors etc.
Autozone is said to have an extensive library of schematics free to view and download---maybe try that? If you find something copy it here and one of us might be able to help.
So you think it is the switch in the driver side door panel? I did look at it and wires are hard connected to that switch so maybe I need to pull the complete door panel then?
Or is there maybe a relay switch for them hidden?
There's what only 1x fuse for both up and down right?
Maybe I'll hit up the local Pick Your Parts wrecking yard (I do need another trans dip stick and some little pocket parts) and look at a disassemble door panel with the switch.
I think I have a workshop book around here but most are useless in these things.
Depending what type workshop manual you're talking about some of them are worthless for things like this. Even an authorized factory manual doesn't really address what I think is your issue.
Give me a short while and I can post a few photos of the master switch block and possibly demonstrate what might be causing your situation.
I know the frustration of having PDL's or PW's and part of their function be acting up---sucks!
Here's some photos hopefully showing what I think you're experiencing here. Keep in mind these parts are from '97 and later however there will be some common elements I'm sure.
Anyway, typical switch showing oxidation/corrosion on one of the terminals:
Back side of the master switch wiring harness block:
Front side: (different block but with better detail of switch terminal contact tangs)
The master switch connection block, front side, two switches in place:
Remove each switch, thoroughly clean each of the five terminals with emery cloth or a wire brush---anything to remove the accumulated corrosion.
If you have something like a small bore cleaning wire brush run it through the contact tangs too---removing any corrosion is a good idea. If not GENTLY and SLIGHTLY close each contact tang so it makes better contact with switch terminals. A SMALL dab of dielectric grease on the switch terminals before reinserting into the block is helpful but not 100% necessary.
If none of these steps helps recheck individual wires leading into the larger connection block----they've been known to occasionally fail but typically the problems are associated with the switches themselves of the contacts in the block.
I'm not overly familiar with that year's PDL/PW lock and its wiring. Most likely the switch block itself can be partially removed from the door trim panel and serviced without complete removal.
