hellow i have been reading up on doing the heavy duty headlight harness mod. alot of folks have had good luck with it. but just about everyone that has done this has bought it from somewhere. id like to make my own since i already have heavy wire and the relays. the po left all of the wiring under the hood for a snowplow and im not planning on running a plow so i was going to utilize that mess to make my harness. anyway i cant seem to find a detaild write up of a homemade harness or even a good diagram on doing so. i did find some universal diagrams but nothing specific for a sd. so my qestion is has anyone made their own and if so would you be willing to share how you did it thanks ps. truck is a 03 250
It is really a simple thing.
2 or 4 relays. If 2 then you turing on both with one relay
if 4 then each lamp/element has it's own relay.
The relays are driven by the stock wring to the coil and the other dies to
ground. So that when you turn the light on the relay closes and applies power
to that lamp/element.
Then you need to make a connection to the battery. Be sure to use a fuse
12V @ 55watt will draw 4.5A 12V @ 60Watt will give you and even 5A
That is per lamp so the 2 lamps on at one time you have 10A + some over head
or inrush current. Last time I just used a 15A and that should do for you.
Use good wire crimps and crimpers #12 copper wire will give the lease resistance.
It may be a little over kill.
One thing about this arrangement is you could turn on everything
with the right switch so that you would have really bright lights.
The officer won't like you for this and it will cost you some $
so use care on when and where you do that.
One last thought would be to get you hands on some of the high temp
automotive ceramic socket. Not sure what lamp is in the 03 the other
thing to watch is on time with the composite lamp assemblies. The plastic melts.
If you still need some help with this PM me and I can draw you up
a schematic. I just need to know what lamp you have in you truck
os I get the pins right.
