Like the title says, my truck is puking oil. Always had a little dribble. Maybe a quart every 2 weeks or so. I put a new clutch in it, replaced oil pan gasket and rear main seal. Valve covers a few months ago as well. I thought maybe I screwed something up on the rear main or the pan gasket, but the guy I took it to said that it's not leaking around the pan or from the crank area. He said it was coming high from the passenger side. I'm not quite sure where it could be coming from. Even after I changed the valve covers, it dribbled, but it never puked. The guy found a high pressure line on top of the motor that was rubbed through, but it didn't fix the big leak. I'm guessing that was my dribble... Are there any oil soft plugs on the back of the motor? Maybe coming from the turbo? If you guys could help me out or lead me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.
Not exactly sure what I'm looking for here...are they the ones painted yellow on the back of the heads? or are those the ones for coolant? I've never seen that part of a 7.3... I've only seen what you can see from under the truck, lol. Never had my motor out...
I would clean things up big time and start it to see where its coming from. We are just guessing at this point. If its the pedestal O rings you have to pull the turbo to get the pedestal out of there.
Yeah, the guy that has it is my buddy and he's working on it at his convenience. Which is going to change because I've been 2 months without a truck. But, yeah, I'd like to get it cleaned up and checked out... Hypothetically, if it is pedestal related, isn't pulling the turbo a huge hassle?
When I did the oil pan gasket, I unbolted the motor mounts and picked the motor up with a block and tackle. Upon lifting it to where it needed to be, the rear of the motor and the turbo started hitting the firewall. Do you think that might of tweaked the o-rings? Are there any hard oil lines that run around or into the turbo?
I'm kinda at a loss here. I don't see how either the plugs or the o rings could just go bad like that. The truck sat for about a week or so before I started it and saw it was puking. I need to get the tranny down. I have an IDI bellhousing that I can put on so I can engage the starter. Then maybe I'll be able to see better. I dunno. Think that would be a logical thing to do?
