New issue just popped up today. My truck is an '03 F250, 7.3, auto, 4x4. As I was driving this morning I felt the engine/transmission stumble as it was shifting gears. It was raining and at first I thought it might just be the tired skipping on the wet streets. Then after a while it did it again as it was shifting gears from a stop.
As I was about to get home the CEL came on and stayed on till I got it parked and shut it down. When I restarted it the CEL was off.
It appears to idle fine. Any thoughts???
I plan to get it to a mechanic to see what codes there are in the morning, but what could possibly make it stumble as it is shifting gears and would throw a CEL?
BTW.....I just replaced the ICP from the dealership, and I also recently had the transmission flushed.
Would the transmission shift solenoid throw the CEL? Just thinking out loud. Of course it could be engine related as well.....
Yes, a shift solenoid can turn on the CEL. So can about 100 other things. There is a code stored, you need that code to find out what's wrong.
Thanks for the reply. I intend to get the codes read in the morning. I just didn't know if there was anything I could visually check in the meantime. Weird that the next drive I took with the truck it ran fine with no issues.

You can visually check everything on the truck. Without the codes it's a waste of time.

I agree. I'll report back when I get the code(s). I though something simple, like when my ICP went bad. I had no clue that a tell tell sign was oil in the connector. However, I needed to verify by getting the codes as well.
Funny you should ask that, as I've been wondering if this was my problem all day. I changed the CPS a short time ago when the issue was actually my ICP. I changed my original CPS with a Duralast CPS from Autozone. but it wasn't the problem, however it was a cheap try. I kept the OEM CPS as a backup. I wonder if this is my problem? I guess I'll know more when I see my code(s).
I am leaning that way. Those cheap aftermarket CPS' are known to be susceptible to interference from the wiper motor. Change it back to your original and see what happens.

I never heard of this before.....but that doesn't mean anything either. Thanks for the tip.
I couldn't get it scanned today.....mechanic was sick. So I decided to put the original CPS back in and use the newer one as a spare. Don't know if this will fix my issue, but it's not raining today. Runs and drive normal today though.
