What size u joints does your current d shaft have?
On my 4x4 it has 1410s stock. I'm in need of a new slip yoke on mine as its got some play.
Believe it or not, my drive shaft CAME with 1330's. I personally think that the 3.5 inch diameter, one-piece shaft that is 71 inches long was a mistake from the factory in the first place. 71 inches of rotating, steel mass looks like a jump rope under the best conditions. Add heavy towing and other stresses to it and something has to bend! It should have had a carrier in the middle like some have.
My new shaft is made of 5 inch diameter aluminum that is rated for 7,700 lb-ft of rotational torque. It will not be as heavy and because of the less weight, will not need a bunch of counter weights stuck all over it. I'm excited to get it and see how smooth the drive is.
Decided I am done with "local yocal" businesses in this neck of the woods that say "too bad so sad" when they do something wrong. Staying with BBB A+ rated businesses that have a strong nationwide reputation from now on.

I have never heard of a drive shaft causing a whine so that should still be there, and that guy that claims to have set up 2,000 rear ends, well I bet you can take 2 zeros off that figure.

Well, he didn't say that the shaft was causing the whine. He said that because of the vibrating noise (which it does make) from the current, bent driveshaft he wasn't able to really hear what was going on with the new gears.
To be honest with you, I KNOW he heard what I heard... I know what gear whine sounds like... been through this before with friends as well as myself in the past. But, alas.... the driveshaft DOES need to be replaced, so I'll do that and then return to him again.
I wonder if I had done this gear swap with a national chain (4 Wheel Parts, etc.) they would be running me around, or if they would just fix the problem? I paid the same amount of money anyway.... sigh....

Not saying you don't have 2 problems.
The whine is the mechanics worst nightmare but there is really no excuse for it. When I was working on them I didn't have a bag of excuses, I just fixed it or they didn't have to pay.

Like I have said in a previous post. "Too bad you are a country away from me!" Heck, I'd even take your twin if you've got one.... Need more people who know what they are doing, or admit it when they don't and refer you to someone else who does.
Bad parts; If a ring and pinion is not made right the problem lies with the shop not the customer. Granted; you can't tell by looking at one if it will be quiet but if they don't have in writing saying; "this gearset might not be quiet" and also say it verbally beforehand then it's on them. The problem is you probably won't have them do the fix in that case.
If you buy some avocados from the store and they are rotten inside it wouldn't be right for the store owner to say; "oh, they just come like that sometimes, maybe the next ones will be good".
There aren't many people that know about differentials, I just happened to specialize in them and transmissions many years ago. The only difference in the newer ones is that they now have a tone ring and they have shims for the carrier adjustment. Many older ones had threaded "nuts" on both sides of the carrier bearings which were easy but I guess they cost too much to make.
Im with everyone else, there should be no noise. If you have given them the chance and they refused I would strat by filing a better business complaint. If that doesn't work then court will be your only option. I live in Orlando. There is a shop here called advance driveline that does amazing work if youre looking to have it corrected by someone else.
