What transfer case shifter do I use?
Out goes the blown up M5OD and in goes an NP435.
I have everything sorted out, like driveshafts & crossmember stuff, so now I'm trying to figure out what transfer case shifter out of what year would work for the combo I have. The truck has a Borg Warner case. I see a lot of the AOD & E4OD 4x4's in the junkyard, but don't know if those shifters will work or not. The one from the M5OD setup is waaay different, and looks like it won't even bolt up to the NP435. Since the NP435 didn't really come in the 92-96 trucks this may be kind of tough. Would one from a 87-91 setup work?
Any info would be much appeciated!
What I did, (and there are many other ways to get the job done) was use the NP 208 that was originally behind the NP 435. The shifter doesn't come up in the same spot, but the transmission cover swapped right over. I did have to block the original hole in the side of the transmission tunnel.
The only part I had to buy was the hydraulic line from the master cylinder to the external slave cylinder, the one on the donor truck leaked.
You may be able to weld up a frame from angle iron that you can mount your shifter on; but it was easier and cheaper for me to swap everything from the bellhousing to the differential yokes.
