Question What do I have here?

A Buddy gave me a transmission, He says it is a 4 speed, and that it was out of an 1989 F150 4x4. However, he has no codes for it, since he was parting the truck. It has a 1 piece aluminum case and bellhousing, and an aluminum tranfer case also. The shifter comes up out of the top. I know it is not a T18 or NP235. Also it has a hydrauilc clutch, with the internal slave cylinder. It was behind a 5.0L. I am more of a diesel guy, and this is way to light for me, but I thought all ford 4 speeds had seperate case & bellhousings. And there is no shifter for me to look at, it was cut off about an inch above since they could not remove the shifter ball. Thanks in advance.

It's sounding like an M5OD (M5R2) but I am not sure... The transfer case is either a Borg-Warner 1356 or 1345.

Sounds like an M5OD to me. You're right - all Ford 4-speeds have a bolt-on bellhousing.
