I am buying 1986 f250 with the ifs front but have access to a matched pair of dana 60s with a locker for the rear I am wondering if anyone can tell me what it takes to swap to a solid front axle into this truck I can't stand the tire wear on the ifs
i don't have them yet but I can get them a 6 inch lift and quite a few other parts for about $500 so I was wondering if the 60 front will just bolt right in the ifs just never should have been in my book I am plaining on running at least a 3157516 on this and at 200 a wack for bfgs i dont want to take the chance
With the 6" lift, just bolt the front axle up and go. You will need to mix and match for the steering, though. I used an axle out of a 77 F-250, and used steering linkage for a 78 F-150 4x4. The cross link hooked up perfectly, but the drag link had to be cut and welded, to hook up to the stock steering box. This setup is amazing, and actually eliminates the bump-steer these trucks are known for.
