Compression Test
yeah, i'm curious to see what readings you'll get! I took another reading at ~70-75 mph tonight - it was just above 90 dB, which is pretty high, I think.
ok, maybe not, says this page: Decibel (Loudness) Comparison Chart
90 is high, but apparently OSHA says 8 hrs/day exposure to 90 dB is OK. its also funny that this level is associated with 'truck traffic' in the upper list - i'd say that's accurate.
I think I figured it out. They sold me a wrong fitting making it to tall and putting the metal part of the grease whip to high. This is what I need:
M10-1/8F8OHGS PARKER HANNIFIN CORP. PARM10-1/8F8OHGS CONVERSION ADAPTERM10 X 1/8 NPT PARKER - Marshall E. Campbell Co.
actually I have a high pressure (1000 psi max) gauge that I 'salvaged' from work, so I'm just looking to make up the whip and check-valve/release valve part of the setup.
from your experience (specifically the quote above), it sounds like getting the correct M10 to 1/8" NPT adapter that goes on the end of the grease whip is critical.
do you think this one from McMaster is the proper one or is it too long like the first one you had? McMaster-Carr
(scroll down for the engineering drawing) I'd like to order from them as it'll get to my house by tomorrow, but if it looks like it may be too long, i'll order from the link above and pay for faster shipping.
thanks!
EDIT: Not quite so pressing now, Glenn - i just called a local shop and they have 3 of the PN you posted in stock. if you know for sure that McMaster one'll work, though, i'll take your word for it and order from them. its a bit cheaper and will save me a few miles driving :-)
I will measure the Parker one against the McMaster model and post the findings here for future reference.
Looking forward my my compression test results!
so for anyone else looking to make the DIY compression tester, my McMaster parts list should have been:
7775K51 Quick-Opening Brass Check Valve, 1/8 NPTF Dryseal Female Connection, Fluoroelastomer Seal
1195K57 Flexible Grease Gun Nozzle, Polyethylene, without Coupler, 18" Length
4936K153 1/8 NPT Female Adapter x M10 x 1.0 Metric Male
46095K21 Diverting 3-Port Brass Ball Valve, Lever Handle, 1/8" NPT Female x Male
that's about $50 total in parts, which is about the cost of the harbor freight kit, I think. oh well :-)
if you have a diesel (or any 500psi) compression gauge, you may just need the M10 adaptor, or the adaptor and grease gun whip at best. I have a standard 1000psi gauge (no internal check valve or pressure release button) i'll be using, so I needed the check valve and 3-way valve to make it work.
Fingers crossed I get the testing done and get good results this weekend!!!
