Before you put any more parts in this you need to think
about doing a power steering fluid oil analysis. There must
be something in the system that is contaminating it.
Blackstone Labs says that they do this also. Tests
You need at this point want to know what is in the fluid.
The only other thing to check is the hoses. They maybe
coming apart inside.
Also have you had the pressure and flow test done?
What fluid are you using to fill it with?
The dealer said they did a pressure and flow test and they said they were fine. They also said there were no air bubbles in the system. I have flushed that power steering/ hydroboost system 3-4 times using Mercon IiI. The last dealer I talked to said to use Mercon V. I used Mobil synthetic in me 7.3l excursion, maybe I should use that???? The fluid looks brand new when I flushed it the last two times. Thanks for the info about the testing.
Sure seems like something may be causing the hydroboost to go bad. This is driving my crazy. Do you think I'm getting bad rebuilds? I've been told autozone rebuilds aren't good and that's why I bucked up and bought a new one from ford. Thanks for the help!!!
I recently put in a new hydroboost from ford. Fine for several days and now getting a kick back or a hitch when palling the break pedal. Called another ford dealer and they said to vacuum bleed the power steering system. After looking online and not really find a kit or parts to do this, I decided to built my own. I will post results after I do this on the morning . Here's some pics of my home made kit. That's a rubber stopper with a double ended brass hose barb going through it, that will go into the powere steering res. i will put an electric vacuum pump to the other end. The vacuum canister has two hose barbs sticking out one will go to the pump and the other the top of the power steering resevoir . Man I hope this work!
That is more or less the a description of how the work book says
how to do it. You also want to cycle the steering while under a
vacuums to get any trapped bubbles to move.
Update..... After vacuum bleeding the system, no change. Took it to the dealership, not the first one I talked about. They vacuum bleed the system and said there was some air but not much. They flushed the entire system with several gallons of fluid and replaced the hydroboost(under warranty) . Worked fine for a few days and back to having the hitch/binding. I didn't have time for serveral month to take it back but I did today. Now they are telling me the power steering fluid is contaminated with metel stuff in there again causing the hydroboost to go bad. They say the steering box is the cause of the metal fillings???? The steering is a little sloppy. What do you guys think? They want $1000 to replace the steering gear BUT they will flush power steering fluid and replace the hydroboost for free. Not bad! The hydroboost part is about $400 for the part alone.
Update on the update..... Dealer took apart the steering box and said it was in a million pieces. Replaced the box , new hydroboost and reflushed the system. All good now. Will report back in several weeks to see if this takes care of the problem .
All is good. Brakes work without the binding. All that took care of the problems. Thanks for all the help.
