Gas Station Fuel Providers / small trip report
Last weekend I took the family to Glenwood Springs Colorado high in the Colorado Rockies.
This is roughly 250 miles each way from home including Eisenhower Pass and Vail Pass twice. Vail is over 10k ft elevation.
Since getting my truck my mileage has steadied at 14.2
I filled up my truck at a local Kum & Go station near my house. I had not used them prior to this trip. There was a sign on the pump that said they use an additive in their diesel winter blend fuels. I added my additive as well and off I went.
This is an entire Highway trip at this point. I ran between 50-77 mph, including some traffic jams due to ski traffic. About a half hour of stop and go...
I set the cruise control close to the speed limit and don't get on the throttle too much except an occasional pass.
My truck Regened twice on the trip and my mileage kept going up! I went from a 14.2 average to 15.3 in one day of driving. With the Altitude and hills etc, I expected to see my mileage drop.
The only thing I can attribute the increase to is the Fuel from the station I had not used yet?
So I was wondering if there is a way to find a fuel supplier that you like and see who all they sell to??
Also: Cruising over a 10k summit and your truck never goes out of overdrive? Priceless...
The power is amazing and I can't wait to get my boat behind it this summer...

I have--albeit all-to-infrequently--experienced a spike in fuel economy when filling my tank at a specific station, the last occurrence was at a Shell station. In my experience, it's like accidentally finding the end of a rainbow, but when you actually try to repeat the feat, the rainbow vanishes before your eyes. Enjoy the moment.

That would be about my luck.
And Senix I did not. Next trip I take I will track things much closer.

I have a running average of 13.8-14.2mpg hand-calc'd around town. Truck is still bone stock.
On a recent 700mile mostly freeway trek up to Reno which is up and over a 6K summit and a net 4.5K elevation rise over 250miles, I got approx 16.6mpg going up and 18.9mpg hand-calc'd on the way back downhill. That's loaded with about 1000lbs of people and cargo and driving 65mph most of the way.
The only new variable on this trip was I mounted a 4'x6' piece of plywood on top of my stuff to act like a temporary tonneau cover, just as an experiment. I got about 0.8-1.5mpg better than 4 nearly identical earlier trips at the same time of year..
The LOM started at 13.8 before we set off, and it finished at 15.4mpg by the end of the trip. Today, it still says 15.1 but my most recent hand-calc was 13.4 thanks to 2 long regens.
For me, I do seem to get better mpgs using Shell fuel... truck stop stuff and no-name surplus fuel stations, although fresh and high turnover, consistently yields less mpgs probably because it's unadulterated / additive-less fuel.

There was a thread a while back about different fuel brands and mileage. It seemed that the cetane factor was the most profound. Then the thread moved to additives with cetane. To get back to your question, I have found that the local grocery store called HEB, I get about 2 mpg better mileage than anywhere else. Hand calculated. All the local 18 wheelersand big truck fill there also. It is a high usage distribution point so the churn is quick. I know the cetane posted is 45 and I still add my Diesel Kleen regardless.
