We made a 419 mile round trip this weekend traveling Rte 460 in Virginia. It's a 4 lane that goes through small towns, yet it's over 60% 60-65 MPH zones.
The trip covers flat land and mountains. Overall my avg. MPG was 23.92 hand calculated. In the mountains I was seeing 22.5 and as much as 25 on the flats.
I maintained the posted speed in the speed trap zones and pushed the limit to 70 as the freeway opportunities presented themselves. My wife and I were alone with very little luggage.
The reason for posting:
There is plenty of negativity and skepticism being posted about the ecoboost trucks. My truck now has 12459 flawless miles on the clock and she seems to be getting better as she ages a little. I don't expect my MPG's will ever improve from this point and there is no reason to ask for better from a 5600 lb truck climbing steep hills and bucking a head wind.
Even with the 3.31's, this damned thing climbs like a mountain lion holding 6th gear and sometimes dropping to 5th.
My 4.6L Expedition has made this very same trip a dozen times before and usually consumes nearly a full tank of fuel for the round trip. I pumped 17.5 in my F-150 stopping at the same station I filled up at on Friday. When I filled up on Friday, I pumped till the pump stopped never clicking it for more gas and I did the same today.
I'm glad your truck is doing so well. My mileage was really terrible at first, but continues to improve all the time. I now have about 2,100 miles on my 4X4 Ecoboost SC Lariat with a 3.73 ratio. MPGs are up to 16.0 driving mostly locally at fairly low speeds, and am very satisfied with my truck. I've also changed to no-ethanol premium. It costs more, but what the heck!
I'm not surprised by your mileage numbers at all, on long trips with a warmed up truck the Ecoboost does excellent. I noticed on shorter trips mine isn't as good but on a good 50+ mile trip the mileage is phenomenal. Glad to hear your truck is doing so well....I haven't got nearly as many miles on mine yet but mine has been trouble free as well.
Thank you for the update tseekins! Those of us still looking to buy and that have been leaning towards the Ecoboost always like to hear actual everyday experiences. I cannot wait to get my Ecoboost F150.... I fell in live with the Platinum and am patiently waiting to get some bills straightened out so I can order one!! I wouldn't be surprised if I sleep in it the first night!
I am glad your truck continues to perform so well. I too am not overly surprised with your mileage as you limited your speed to 70 or less and you have the 3.31 rear end. If I keep my 3.73 at 70 or below I can get between 20-23 depending on conditions. The problem is grew up in a place where if you want to go anywhere you better plan on at least an hour so I have a hard time keeping the speed down.

I notice my 5.0L gets awesome milage at 68-70 (21-22) as soon as you creep past 70 mph it falls off. And I believe that is mostly due to this truck still being a brick at those speeds.
