I need to wire the lighting of some add-on gauges and want to tap into the wire off the light switch that controls the dimming function for the cluster lights. What wire am I looking for? This is on my '67 F250.
I believe this is correct layout. I am using the Blue w/Brown tracer for my gauges. It is the feed for the dash lights on my '67. The one labeled DIM SWITCH (dimmer switch) is for headlights. [/IMG]

VW. On my Bump I got lazy and used the wire feeding the light in the Cigarette lighter. Tapped in to it. It dims with the dash lights and is super easy to access.

Thanks jeffafa. Any issues adding extra light and overloading the circuit? Had heard over at fordification there was a risk of damaging the dimmer on the switch. I'm adding lighting for 4 additional gauges.
None that I am aware of. It makes no difference where you tap in to that curcuit. All dash lights are wired same color because they are all on the same curcuit. I just grabbed the cigarette lighter lamp wire since it is the easiest to access. As far as your 4 lamps go you might end up buying bulbs with less candlepower anyways. Which would take less power. Those aftermarket gauges are usually a lot brighter than the dash. IMHO that's annoying. Call me picky.
If you can try to use leds, a lot less power. I would do a google search or ebay, parts stores usually carry a limited supply. Do you know if that wiring diagram would be the same for a 70 f-100? Nice diagram, thanks.

I choose the terminal for my add-in gauges at the light switch and made the diagram when I was doing some trouble shooting of a lighting problem.
My dash lights and tail lights were staying on all the time regardless of the position of the Key or light switch.
I had purchased a BWM part# S411 light switch at Orielly's, it was listed as fitting my truck and over 1,000 other Fords. Turns out the Tail Light and Dash Light terminals were internally connected to the Power terminal in Light Switches with this part number.
Here's a Link to other colored diagrams for Light Circuits, Charge/Start/Ignition, and Wipers. I colored in the wiring from the legend shown in the original image. Not all of the colors listed match my 1967 F350's wiring but they were still helpful. When you click on the link it should open a page in your browser and let you download them. There will be a pop-up to try to get you to sign-up for Box online storage. Ignore it if you want, you will still be able to download the files. If you want to use Box online storage I think there is still a way I can send you a link to get 50GB free. https://app.box.com/s/pys3bizqna8dtvqjafnz
also you may have to change up to a bigger fuse with more lights. i tapped 3 more guage lights into the circuit (tach, volts, Oil pressure) and i have to run a 5A instead of the old 2A fuse.
