i am posting here cuz i am running out of patience. have had 5 shops and over 8 differnt people look into car not starting. i know without it in front of you cant say for sure, but looking for opinions. 71 tbird 460cid. new bat, starter bench tested fine. all new grounds and wiring/cables. starter gear and fly wheel teeth fine. turn key and it clicks. starter engages but wont turn fly. every now and then it will start out of the blue. sometimes a jumper will start it. thanks for looking-
Connect the 2 terminals on the solenoid with a screwdriver and see if it fires up. Your effectively bypassing the solenoid, so it should fire up. If it does, the solenoid is bad.

yea it tested fine. looking into the fun job of dismantling the steering column. everything else has been tested. thanks
Shouldnt a 71 have the relay/solenoid assy on the fender well? i wasnt aware of an actual starter mounted one, and its kinda disturbing that a shop cant find an electrical issue on a non computerized, non electronic vehicle....I also woulda thought a 71 would have a dash mounted ignition switch, not a column one.......Does it have a Neutral Safety switch? if its a column auto, have you tried starting it in both neutral and park? it shouldnt even click, if its got this switch, but i suppose the switch could be allowing only a little current flow. Damned frustrating, regardless!
