Interesting afternoon today. After shutting off the truck I attempted to get out. The shaft holding the inside door handle stripped causing the handle to spin. A pair of vice grips took care of that. But at the same time the outside handle ceased to work. The button pushes in but nothing happens. Coincidence or a related issue?
I would say, the door is in the locked position and the rod may have fallen off. As 66 said, pulled the door panel and use a mirror. Sad thing is, you need a new latch unless its just the handle that is stripped. Vice grips will mess it up real fast.

Will need a new shaft for inside too. Not available by itself, only furnished with remote control.
Striker plate (22008) retained by 3 Philips head screws to door post (B pillar).
Over time, the screws work loose, striker plate moves around, binds up with rotary wheel of door latch (21812)...so when you push the handle, the door won't open.
Place right hand on door next to handle...push the door in as far as it will go...and hold it there. Now place left hand on handle, push the button and pull.

Thanks guys. 65 F100 was not locked. Door handle shaft was already stripped before vice grips used. I think Numberdummy has it right with striker plate moving. Will poke around inside door and see what's going on.

You can't see anything inside the door, as the striker plate is located outside the door on the door post aka B pillar.
Nonsense! I have had Vice grips on my doors for over twenty years and they still work great!
In fact, I may just have them chromed if I do a restore and leave it that way!
If the regulator shaft and handle grooves are not seriously rounded/damaged suggest taking a mini triangle, or appropriate shaped mini file and see if able to reshape the grooves, worked on my 65.

Now that would be a sight, completely restore with chromed out vice grip handles! Might as well get some smaller ones for windows too!
