Hello everyone, first time posting on here but have used this forum a lot in the past as its a great source for information. I tried searching for anything towards this topic but could not find anything so I figured I'd just start a new thread. I just bought a 1970 F250 Sport Custom with the 390 in it and auto transmission about a month ago. I bought the truck with the engine out of it (previous owner pulled the engine to rebuild and restore the truck but never got around to finishing it) but got a good deal. I dropped the engine in a couple weeks ago and got it fired up for the first time last week after finally getting the timing right. Now I have been working to piece everything back together (kinda difficult when you're not familiar with these trucks and you didn't take it apart) and I'm at the point where I am only missing a few details here and there. Which brings up the topic... How many brackets are needed to mount the pump and can someone provide pics of their pump/bracket configuration? I have found a piece that mounts on the front of the p/s pump goes under the pulley and installed it. However the pump kinda swings back and forth on this bracket so I feel like I'm missing another bracket that runs behind it and bolts to the head?? Help anyone?
Well we might be better able to help if we knew where you are. There could be a local that has one that you could pick up. A salvage yard is an excellent place to look. Some are called pick & pulls. The FE was a popular truck engine from 65 to 76, with most of the early 70s having power steering.
I believe you can use the mounts from 100/250/350 to hold the round metal pump. How far away is the OO, he could have another box of parts that he overlooked. Do you have the return lines or a cooling pod? Are you planning to run power steering fluid or ATF?
You do have the correct steering column, that is all fitting?
Seems like the one I just bought was just one piece and the pump slides inside it with a tension rod on the end and 4 nuts that keep it tight. I think (it's early) it had two bolts for water pump and two for the head. I remember thinking you would have to pull pulley to get pump out of this bracket.
Wow thanks for the quick reply and warm welcome guys!
I am located in Los Angeles and the truck is sitting in the shop I work at in Culver City.
Previous owner told me that what was in the bed is everything he's got for the truck with the exception of the hubcaps that he's looking for in his garage. He said the power steering was working the day they pulled the engine and when I got the truck the pump was still connected to the column, lines, and cooling pod it was just hanging from the hood mounts, so they just unbolted it from the engine. Everything seems to fit perfect and the truck was running and driving when he pulled the engine for the rebuild.
The truck has factory power steering and factory A/C (A/C was removed). All the plumbing and components are there for the power steering. It does in fact have a cooling pod that has a bracket coming out of it with two holes to mount somewhere which is also why I was wondering if someone out here had the same truck so I could see a picture of where everything is supposed to go or how a factory truck should be. haha
Thanks for all the help! I'll see if I can take a picture since its worth a thousand words.
I just bought a 1970 F250 Sport Custom 390 A/T (C6), P/S & A/C (removed) about a month ago. Welcome to FTE
Two brackets required: 3C511 (P/S pump support) & 3A732 (P/S pump adjusting). I assume you're missing the support bracket. If so...
C7TZ-3C511-D .. P/S Pump Support Bracket / Marked: C7TA-3D691-A or -B / Obsolete ~ No one has any NOS / Applications: 1967 F100/350 352 & 1968/72 F100/350 360/390.
I doubt you'll find it on the Westside, as all the yards have gone bye bye. Ecology Auto Wrecking (pick-a-part) located in Santa Fe Springs, there are several pick-a-part yards located on Branford St. in Sun Valley.
Left: 1969/72 F100/350 360/390 / Right: 1973/76 F100/350 360/390 (and etc) - Since these brackets are different, you'll need both of them.
Note: Your P/S pump has a steel reservoir. Plastic reservoir pump intro'd in 1978, it's a different shape than steel reservoir pump.
There are no FE brackets available that'll fit it, since FE engines cancelled at end of 1976 model run.
Wow thanks so much NumberDummy you were dead on! I do need the support bracket and I do have the adjusting bracket. I guess I better start searching all the yards. At least I have part numbers now.
Thanks for all the help guys! I'll be sure to post up some pictures once I get her on the road.
Gees if you would posted 2 weeks ago, I removed one from the adjusting bracket at PnP as,
I did not need that rear piece. A shop messed up the idler pulley on that front piece trying remove it to install a water pump for my x mother inlaw trucks so, I had to fix for her. Had AAA tow it out of that shop ..orich
