I have a 2001 7.3 ford the seal in the turbo went and oil went in the exhaust. lots of oil like 10 quarts. I had a rebuilt turbo installed ran great for 2 weeks then one day out of the blue started idling rough and then downward from there no power stalling etc I have my super chip scanner it read dtcs of 1249 478 1211 and 238. Is it possible the muffler is plugged with oil? or is it and ipr? 193000 miles please help
*****UPDATE******* PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
Ok So I changed the Ipr it wont even start now just fires a little bit. White smoke coming from exhaust while turning it over but no fire.
these codes still there
238 = turbo boost sensor A circuit high input (MAP sensor)
478 = exhaust pressure control valve high input (plugged sensor line, stuck butterfly, plugged exhaust)
1211 = IPR valve above/below desired
1249 = waste-gate failure steady state
i erased them but it wont fire to give me new ones could it be a plugged exhaust?
from doing reading it sounds like the hpop not sure yet. It almost starts and if it did it would run rough. similar to what youtube videos have been showing
I put 2.5+ gallons of oil in my exhaust and stock muffler when the turbo in my X pooped the bed. Made a ridiculous mess of my camper but cant hurt anything as far ad engine goes...
1211 is likely your problem. Maybe a peice of turbo carnage got to the IPR or maybe HPOP died. Id want a scantool that can measure ICP snd IPR Duty Cycle to get started with dissecting that code...
Maybe consider the Torque App for your smartphone?? Cheapest way I know to check that stuff (and most other parameters the PCM monitors)
Scangauge II is another economical option and Aeroforce Interceptor Scangauge is next, pricewise. The latter also does Buzz Test and Cylinder Contribution Test....
If it were the exhaust it would've ran like garbage from the git-go, not waited two weeks. No doubt the oil is all burned away. The problem sounds coincidental making you assume it's related.
Your issue is running rough, no power and stalling.
What about starting? Is it hard to start when it's cold? What about after it's been running?
What is the mileage on the truck right now? How long have you owned it and what is the known maintenance history in terms of replacing significant parts?
