170f running coolant temp

I recently purchased a scangauge just to keep an eye on things and noticed that it only gets up to 175 max when running 70. It never cools down under 170 at idle. Is this a big deal besides being out of spec? Are there mileage, performance or longetivity losses or advantages with running it cooler?

You might see a mpg loss. Not too sure about performance. If your cold soak temps look fine I would go ahead and replace the thermostat.

its going to clog the EGR Valve and intake manifold Poor MPG as mentioned

Last time my thermostat ran that cold I replaced it and my MPG went up quite abit

Also the EOT don't mean as much until ECT is brought within Spec

GOOD Point on Cold soak Temps ^^^Check that

I installed a new oc about 10k mi ago. Right now I am at 175 ect and 190 eot. But like you said those are useless numbers until ect is 190. I will order a new stat and probably a coolant filter to boot. Thanks for the help.
