I've always had great luck with Shell's Rotella line of engine oils, conventional or "synthetic". Thanks for pointing that out though Rich, I was unaware T6 was not full synthetic. At 6,000 miles on Dino oil, that should be changed sooner rather than later.

If it were me, I'd return the O'reillys CPS in favor of a Ford one.

Stinson & anyone else this may apply to,
If I stepped on some toes by bringing up cummins, that was not my intention. Nothing is perfect & I don't expect that, just some designs can be more prone to problems than others. This is my first diesel experience & I was just wondering if they're all prone to this or is there one brand better than others. I've never experienced this much trouble with a gas engine. That said, I still believe every truck that's going to be used as a truck should have a diesel engine. Just my opinion. I know plenty of people who would disagree with me, including my wife.
I really do greatly appreciate everyone's help & opinions, especially if their opinions are different from mine. I already know what I think & I have been proven wrong on more then one occasion. Please just don't gloat.
With that out of the way, Help! If I can't fixed this thing soon, wife is threatening taking it to a real mechanic. : )
I'm going to go ahead & put in the BWD sensor & go from there.

I've said much nastier things than you have here.

Consider this: Many of these guys have 200K miles or more, some have 300K or more, and plenty have 400K or more. Some of these guys have had their whole truck rust out and collapse around a good-running diesel. The fact that the engine goes that far while pulling horses, fivers, and work trailers without a total engine replacement speaks volumes for any engine. Now... make your gasser go 13-14 years with the same treatment that a diesel receives - and roll that odometer for good measure. I just bet you'll have sensors, wires, and other goodies fail. With the diesel, it takes a total gear shift in one's thinking.

Thanks Tug. It is a completely different way of thinking with a diesel. I've had this truck for 7 1/2 years & only in the last couple have I got the nerve to work on it, plus none of my friends own a diesel so I don't have the usually support to bounce ideas off of. The 20+ years of working with gas engines & thinking that way is pretty much out the window for me. I appreciate you guys being patient with my frustrations.
Last night went to change out the camshaft position sensor & stripped the head of the bolt. So tonight I have to pull out my broke screw/bolt remover & get that bolt out. What fun!

You didn't step on any toes. Just don't want you to get discouraged. The point Rich made is true. Diesels are better for what you want the truck for. If they weren't, big rigs would have gas engines.

Many use Rotella T6 because it's less expensive, but my homework shows this is not a true synthetic. My injector guy says a true synthetic is ideal, but it is pretty expensive. I use Mobile 1, some go for Schaffer (sp?), and there plenty of others. If you are trying to save money, the T6 is way better for your situation than 15-40.[/quote]

So Rich, what did your home work reveal? I use Mobil 1 also but have used T6 a few times in the past when I couldn't find Mobil. Just curious.
