now what?

'99 f350 psd, no mods
It would run til it warmed up & then it would die & I would have to wait 20-30 mins before it might start again.
I've replaced the ICP, cleaned & changed the seals on the IPR. Sucked it up & got a Snap On MT2500. Ran a KOEO & it flagged P0475 Exhaust Pressure Control Valve Fault. Ran a KOER it flagged P0476 Exhaust Pressure Control Valve Perform. Read that it was probably the BPCV tube & sensor. Replaced the Exhaust Back Pressure Tube (it was cracked in a couple of places) & figured I would go ahead & replace the sensor rather than trying to clean it. (got a BWD sensor half price on ebay) Cleared codes, Idled it til it warmed up & drove it for bout 15 miles. No issues. Ran the above tests again with same results as before.
Question is, now what? My Haynes book is totally useless in telling me where the actual exhaust pressure control valve is as is the web pages I've been to. I figured the actual valve maybe sticking but I cant find the thing. Any & all help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't believe there is any such valve. The only thing is the tube and sensor.
Maybe the valve in the turbo outlet. Is the truck low on power? Maybe the sensor for it is not working. Don't think this would cause it to die though.
Sounds lime a fuel problem to me. You have any way to monitor fuel pressure ?

Can you tell us more about your truck? The more info, the easier it will be to figure out the problem.

How many miles?

How many miles on the oil?

What kind of oil are you using?

How long has it been since you changed the fuel filter?

The codes that you have gotten should not have made the truck die. I also believe it may be a fuel issue at this time, but some more info would be helpful.

BTW, where do you live? There might be someone close that can help.

It has 195,000miles on it.
I can watch fuel pressure with the snap on scannner.
changed fuel filter a little over 1,500 miles ago. (one of the first things I changed thinking it might be it)
Running Valvoline Blue motor oil, changed bout 6,000 miles ago.
Other codes it had stored in memory are in the order it listed them:
P0733 = incorrect gear 3 ratio
P1670 = ef feedback signal not detected
P0475 = exhaust pressure control valve fault
P0344 = cam pos sensor ckt intermittent
P1212 = icp not at expected
P0340 = cam pos sensor ckt fault

I went with the KOEO & KOER codes first because the scanner said fix those first.
I live in Denver, CO. I just started it & it crank for a good 30-45 secs before it started. Its 45 degrees out & it wasnt plugged in.
Thanks for your help.

1. Don't believe you can read fuel pressure with a scanner. Our trucks don't have a reading for that. It has to be an aftermarket gauge.
2. Verify that your WHOLE glow plug circuit is working . 45* and no glow plugs can cause hard start .
3. Figure out a way to monitor fuel pressure. Add a gauge or go to harbor freight and get one you can hook up to the back of the fuel bowl temporarily. It would be better to do a permanent in cab one. That way you can monitor it all the time.
4. Perform a buzz test on the injectors. Listen to see if they are all firing evenly.

Just got back from running some errands. It stuttered on me once & died on me twice but started right back up both times. Died the first time, coasted to a stop (was in a parking lot) started right back up, went to park it & died again but started right back up. I ran it another minute then shut it down. Drove home half hour later with no problems.
Could that have been the Cam Positioning Sensor?

Top of the list - Cam Position Sensor. It's inexpensive, they commonly fail, and they will stall a truck intermittently. Everybody here has one in the glove box as a backup.

After you've tried that, you can see if the symptoms or codes have changed.

There is no sensor for fuel pressure on the truck. There is no sensor for coolant temperature on the OBDII port, it just goes to the gauge.

Exhaust Back Pressure Valve is probably what your scanner is referring to - it's in the turbo pedestal. A code there doesn't always mean a problem with that, it frequently means there's a problem with the EBP sensor.

Ford Powertrain Control and Emission Diagnostics (PC/ED) is the book you're looking for. I bought one used from Amazon.

Also, check the tin nut on the IPR valve. they come loose and can cause the motor to act up that way also.

195,000 miles is getting in that area where several things could be causing problems. Monitoring the ICP and IPR would come in handy right now too. For now though, check the cheap/simple things first. Also, I'm not familiar with Valvoline Blue oil. Is 6,000 miles on it OK in our trucks? Old oil and/or the wrong oil in our trucks will make them do funny things.

I'm not either, I had to look it up. 15-40... dead dinos. DItR - Your oil is due, winter's coming, and your injectors are growing some pretty long teeth. This is the absolute perfect time to do an oil change to 5-40 synthetic. Many use Rotella T6 because it's less expensive, but my homework shows this is not a true synthetic. My injector guy says a true synthetic is ideal, but it is pretty expensive. I use Mobile 1, some go for Schaffer (sp?), and there plenty of others. If you are trying to save money, the T6 is way better for your situation than 15-40.

I know a friend of mine has a dodge and he uses that oil, but he has to change it like every 3500 miles because of fuel contamination in the oil. One of the headaches of owning an EPA compliant 09 truck I guess.

Well it died on me again. This time had to wait bout 10 mins before it would start but only got a mile down the road before it died. Then I just waited for my wife to tow me home. By the time we got home (bout 2-3 miles) it started back up. I just shut it down & tried to forget bout it the rest of the night. This truck is really starting to tick me off. I Greatly appreciate all the help.
I already bought a BWD Camshaft Position Sensor from O'Reilly's. Do I need to try & take that back or just go with it? I havent even pulled it out of the box. They might take it back. I've spent alot of $ with them in the last 4 months.
As far as oil goes, I'm more of a Castrol Syntec fan. Anyone hear any bad things about Syntec? I've changed to Bosch oil filters lately after doing some research. Would I go back to 15-40 in the spring?
As for the ICP & IPR, I can hook the scanner back up & drive it & see if I get anything worth noting. Fuel pressure gauge I'll look into.
Again...Thanks for the help.
Do people have this much trouble with Cummins or is all this just having a diesel?

It can happen with anything. Vehicles of any type are made with thousands of parts. The 7.3 is fairly simple, just hang in there awhile and you'll get it figured out with the help of the good people here. By the way. I've owned mine for 15yrs this feb. and its only been to a dealer twice for recalls. The cps and the wire harness for the OD or whatever it was. And for oil, just stick with synthetic year round. Like Rich, I also use Mobil 1.
