Crazy idea for windshield wipers.

I was farting around with the truck this weekend. got to looking at the underdash area. There just is not a lot of room back there. So I got to thinking about all the head room above the glass on the 49. There is gobs of room to put the wipers above the glass instead of below it. Has anyone done this? the idea is sound, however to do it and not have it look school bus-ish. But it would free up the old wiper holes in the cowl for washer fluid jets.

I havent seen it done, maybe there is a reason why.

I'm pretty somewhere on the net I've seen it done but I personally think it wouldn't look good.

I had to edit my reply, meant to type wouldn't look good, but just my opinion.

Overhead Wipers

I haven't done it myself but when I built my 39 Ford it had overhead wipers. I replaced the vac motor with a cable driven electric kit. The only problem that posed was at 60-70mph, they would tend to flop up over the roof. I replaced the cable kit with one from Newport Engineering and that solved the problem. Ken

There was a custom truck on eBay recently with this treatment. Looked just fine.

I'm working on my factory electric system, which has its own set of problems. I picked up a Jeep CJ-7 system at a swap meet, and it appears perfect for retrofitting the stock vacuum systems. Easy to modify space between pivots, uses the same arms and blades. But the pieces that fit into the cowl are uniquely shaped on our trucks, have to use originals or one of the several aftermarket replacements.
