I was wondering if anyone has used this and had success. My key fob lanyard hole is broken and i'd rather not have to fix it like my last vehicle(gluing a cheap key chain to my remote).
If i understand how the key system works with ford is that there is a chip in the key, not the key fob, that deactivates the anti-theft system. with that said, does that meant that this "blank" key won't work.
As long as you have 2 keys already programmed you can program the new keys yourself after they are cut. It's a matter of inserting each individual key into the ignition and turning to the "run" position for a specified amount of time. Your owners manual will outline how. I've programmed extra keys in my 05 F150, my 12 F150 and my wife's 12 Fusion with no problems following the instructions in the owners manual. Good luck!
My only worry is that this is just the key, without the required chip, that needs to be programmed. I have ready the steps to program a new key which shouldn't be a problem, as i have both factory keys. I was hoping that maybe someone here has used this one, as there are no reviews on this product.
Ive never used a repair kit such as that one. I just bought the entire key from ebay and had it cut. It looks like you just take the guts out of your existing key and transplant them into the new shell if Im reading it right though. Shouldnt be but a 5 minute job at the desk or kitchen table once the blank is cut.
I'm not sure what the 2011+ key fobs look like, but mine doesn't look like the one in the link you posted, it looks exactly like the one in the link i posted. I suppose for $12 plus shipping this wouldn't be the worst mistake i've ever made. I'll ponder it tonight and maybe order it tomorrow.
Sorry about that. A co worker has a 2009 and his key looks exactly like mine so I assumed the 2010 would be the same.
I bet you will turn out okay with either one you decide to go with. On my current 12 F150 and wifes Fusion, I actually bought keys without the fob on them (04-08 style) and they work perfectly. I bought them like that so that I had the extra in case someone lost their keys I would still have 2 programmed.
I like the idea of having 3 keys programmed so i don't have to visit the dealer to over pay for a lost key. I think i might bite the bullet and order it tomorrow. I'll have to see if this gov't furlough has hit our bank account as hard as i think it may have. Just glad it's over.
