I'm a user on the mark VIII board thought I'd swing over here quick.. My brother in law has an '05 f150, and was given a key fob from the dealer unprogrammed..
On older fords like my lincoln you don't have to take it to the dealership to get it programmed.. you can do it by taking out the glove box and playing with some wires and fob with the key in the ignition....
How do we go about programming this one for the f-150?
you should have atleast two keys from the dealer... any way to program an extra key is easy, first put one of the keys in the key hole and turn it on III (on pisition) and off (I) then on again then off, within five second take out the key and put the second key in the ignition then on and off (JUST ONCE) THEN take it out and insert the third key and turn it on and off.. that's it just remove the key it's already programmed.....keep in mind that the procedure has to be performed within five second of each procedure.
You must be talking about the key itself, and they must have transponders within them. He bought the truck used .. it was a rental vehicle new. Anyways I meant the key 'fob' or keyless remote.. i took a suggestion and looked in the owners manual.. in order to program the 'fob' you put the key in the I position, turn it back and forth between the III and I position eight times then push any button on the unprogrammed fob and it's programmed.. took twelve seconds

Maybe below will help, I don't have the 05 book downloaded but it's available.

As complex as vehicles are these days, I'ld never have one that I didn't also have or get a owners guide book and Warranty Guide and Maintenance Schedule for. If the seller or dealer wants to sell it, he'll get one to you.
If something happens to it, there's ebay and the manufaturer and there's "on line" downloads now. This is page 136 of the 368 page 2007 Ford F-150 Owner's Guide.
Programming remote transmitters
It is necessary to have all (maximum of six — original and/or new) of
your remote transmitters available prior to beginning this procedure. If
all remote entry transmitters are not present during the programming
procedure, the transmitters that are not present during programming will
no longer operate the vehicle.
To program the transmitters yourself: Note: Ensure the brake pedal is not
depressed during this sequence.
• Unlock all doors using the power door lock/unlock control. Insert a
key and turn the ignition from the 1 (OFF/LOCK) to the 3 (ON)
position and cycle between 1 (OFF/LOCK) and 3 (ON) eight
times in rapid succession (within 10 seconds) with the eighth turn
ending in the 3 (ON) position. The locks will cycle to confirm that the
programming mode has been entered.
• Within 20 seconds, program a remote transmitter by pressing any
button on a transmitter. The locks will cycle once to confirm that the
remote transmitter has been programmed. (If more than 20 seconds
pass before pressing a remote transmitter button, the programming
mode will exit and the procedure will have to be repeated.)
• Repeat the previous step to program additional remote transmitters.
The locks will cycle once to confirm that each remote transmitter has
been programmed.
• When you have completed programming the remote transmitters, turn
the ignition to the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position or wait 20 seconds. Again
the doors will lock/unlock to confirm programming has been
completed.
Thanks so much, I'll give it a try in a bit! Very helpful information tbear!
There's an owner's manual in my truck's glovebox but it's the wrong one. It's for a 2006 SD truck so I plan to talk to the dealer when I pick my plates up to see if they just got switched or what. I put everything in the trucks when I sell them including the sticker if I sell it to an individual and have the sticker.
