I only have one key to my 2005 f150 and am needing to get another one. I know it is cheaper to get keys online then take them to the dealer to program them. I found the key alone to be around $20 but found one of those flip out all in one keys where the remote and key is one piece. has anybody got one or know if this is a safe way to go? I am posting the link to the one I found below so you know what im talking about. I just assumed it would be convinient. One of my hesitation with buy this would be my current key not working. I dont think that would be the case but because it is a different set up maybe. Does anyone know or have suggestions. thanks
Jodi
yes, that key will work 100% with your truck. you will need to visit a Dealership or Locksmith though to program it since you only have 1 key.
read the link above about the PATS system I wrote up a little while back. It contains everything straight out of the Owners manual.
edit: btw, you can get those keys for about $20 cheaper shipped if you look around. they usually go for $28-30 shipped. The link you put up is way too expensive
Small clarification. A locksmith cannot create a unique PATS key, they can only duplicate an existing PATS key. A dealer can create a unique PATS key. This is important if you want to program additional keys in the future as you must have at least two unique PATS keys.
I'd also recommend you buy a second PATS key (plain), get it cut, program it, and store it in a safe place.
If you ever loose a key you will not have to go to a dealer to get a new key programmed.
Based on other posts (locksmith made key, but it was not unique and owner could not program third key), there must be two versions of the hardware.
Did a quick search and I can only find this one: HIK 8008LB - Locksmith PATs Programming NGS and it does say it can create new keys, but the website is out-of-date (through 2001 MY).
Thanks! I am now looking at getting a remote start so I will have to get two more keys made and loose one to the remote start programming...so I just need a regular chipped key.
Tylus, if you can dig up those flip keys anywhere cheaper, I'd be grateful. I'm looking at getting two, and the best i've found is $48 US with free shipping.
