Got the column mounted up yesterday no problem. Hard to tell if it looks nice with that double ugly steering wheel on. Center piece is missing and it is all done in early rust. Going to tackle the wiring today and hopefully will have power booster and master cylinder hooked up this weekend possibly go for a test ride.
I have a '57 F100 with a '78 van tilt column the has been shortened to fit. The mount collar below the tilt has broken. I'm looking for a replacement part or whole column if anyone has one.
If you put a shorter column in that will couple to a Saginaw power steering box, you'll need the shorter column bracket that goes on the engine side of the firewall.
My (taller) '69 F100 manual steering column bracket on the left, (shorter) power steering column bracket on the right.
If changing from a manual steering column to a power steering column (with Saginaw box), you'll also need to change out the firewall column seal.
My manual steering column seal on the left, power steering/tilt column seal on the right.
If the shorter PS/tilt column doesn't have the coupler/rag joint flange on the end of the steering shaft, you will not be able to install the rubber rag joint --I found this out because guess what part didn't come with my '78 tilt column when I bought it?
Column side steering shaft flange required, to be able to install a rag joint, shown below.
Since my column didn't arrive with this flange, I eliminated the rag joint completely and installed a Borgeson stainless steel steering joint.
The Bumpside main wiring harness connections to the Dentside column connector is different. The Bumpside has two connectors and the Dentside has a larger, single column wiring connector. I didn't want to cut my original Bumpside wiring harness to splice in the Dentside tilt so, I cut the connectors/wiring off my old Bumpside turn signal switch and spliced them into a Dentside connector. I made a short 'patch cable' that would plug in, in between the original two main wiring harness connectors and the single connector to the column wiring.
Connectors/wiring I cut from my old Bumpside turn signal switch on the left. Dentside connector on the right.
Connectors spliced and soldered together to make the patch cable.
The patch cable installed between the Bumpside main wiring harness connectors and the connector on the Dentside column.
After the cable was connected up, I tucked and secured the wiring up under the dash. (I have the plastic column trim piece from the Dentside the tilt column came from. It would not fit between the column and my dash).

Not exactly sure which part you mean. Hey Bill, can you please post 73/79 truck illustration section 35, page 27?
