1978/'79 F-series trucks were the first year models available with a tilt wheel column. The key wasn't on any of the truck columns until 1980. These columns were also optionally available in the '78/'79 full-sized Broncos and E-series vans --the column from a van will be longer than one from a truck/Bronco.

Most are configured for an automatic transmission with the shift selector lever on the column. Some were configured for a floor shifter with no gear selector lever on the side of the column but, these are few and far between.

The gear indicator dial is also lighted on the tilt column, when you turn your head lights on.

You'll have to have a Saginaw power steering gearbox to couple the column to.

I have a tilt wheel column from a '78 F150 in my '69 F100.

I've heard (hear say) that there is no replacement u-joints for the upper tilt shaft assembly so if your still wanting to use a Ford column keep this in mine.

I was at one of the Good Guys car shows a couple of yrs ago an, I asked one of the vendors that was selling the tilt type that would fit my 71 F250 with key on dash floor-shift type if the u-joints were replaceable an he said they were.

Just a heads up before you buy one..

Pic: Where are the u-joints? No see um.

Most of the tilt parts are the same: 1970/79 FoMoCo Passenger Cars; 1978/91 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline; 1980 Granada/Monarch/Versailles.

The part that is almost impossible to find is the tilt wheel locking lever (3B661 in pic). I know where there's ONE (found it @ a dealer in OK last September). No one else has any.

This particular column was specifically built by Ididit to bolt directly in. Even the wiring was OEM color coded, hence the high price tag and extended build time wait. My only complaint is the turn signal cancellation doesn't work.

Give me a wrench and socket set and I can do just about anything, when it comes to spraying paint without running it I'm useless

The little clamp on bracket on the under side of the steering wheel hub may be missing or not timed right.

I recall the column being too small in diameter. Did you get another?
