The truck has sat for the better part of the last 3-5 years. Just driven every few months. Recently it has begun running pretty badly. felt like a fuel starvation issue. I found the FPR was bad and changed it. (fuel was coming through vacuum line) that helped a little but not 100%.
Well now the truck will not start at all. I pulled the fuel line off on the front side (before) of the fuel filter. Very little ran out of it. I left it open and cycled the key several times. I can hear the pump turn on for about 2 seconds with the key, but no fuel comes from the line. I tried switching between front and rear tanks with same results. although when I switch to front tank the sound of the pump is different. but the results are the same. No fuel. The front tank reads fuel in it. the rear one should have a little bit in it from this summer. The sending unit shows empty on anything under 1/4 tank. been like that for many years.
So where Is a good place to start looking? any ways to manually turn pumps on to verify they are or are not pumping.
Have you checked to see if maybe the fuel filters are just plugged? They may be filled with junk from sitting for so long. Fuel filters can plug bad enough that they can require vehicles to be towed home.
There are 2 pumps on your truck.
One in the tank (s), One in the frame rail
The tank pump is a lift pump, low pressure
The pump in the rail is the high pressure pump
Make sure all pumps are working
Another problem is the fuel reserve transfer
That's the can looking thing by the fuel pump. It has 4 lines in, from the two tanks, and 2 lines out.
It's purpose is to return the fuel to the tank it is being pumped from.
When they fail, you will get no fuel to the engine, no matter what tank your on. All pumps work, but cannot supply fuel, because it's cut off
I will almost guarantee that if your fuel filter is not plugged then your fuel pump is bad. I played that game mid summer and finally replaced my in tank fuel pump on my 1992 F250 300 4.9 and it started and ran like a dream.
Look it up on Wikipedia. Believe it or not. They have the most straight to the point history of the entire 300 motor evolution. It's really quite informative

Starting in 90, the fuel ststem went to 1 fuel pump (2 if 2 tanks)
This is a high pressure pump called a fuel delivery module.
85 - 89 had the older system.
The fuel transfer reserve can is his problem. You do not have this on your 92.
