What engine is that?

Anybody know what this engine is? I guess it *could* be an IDI, but sure doesn't look like it.

I saw a truck like that with factory diesel badges once... he pulled out of the gas station before I could get out of my truck and ask him what he had under the hood. Sounded great as he pulled away though. It's definitely not a 6.9/7.3 though.

My guess would have to be that looks like the 8.2L Detroit.

Yup. Looks like a Detroit. They were optional in some Ford cab and chassis but I don't know if they were that early. They ones I've seen were mid 80's MY.

8.2 Detroit, gutless turd of an engine in the run-ins I have had with them. The turbo version had about 20 more hp than a 7.3 n/a, and likes to drool oil all over itself with the occasional blown head gasket.

Yup Its a 8.2 Detroit. I just removed one from my Motorhome. Now it has a 7.3 in it. should be running this weekend. The 8.2 is a turd and the turbo units are head gasket blowing turd....

I hope no one made great pains to put that in there. What a waste of time and scrap iron...

Yeah, but it can't even do that as well as other motors.

It's heavy enough. It makes a better anchor than a 6.2, so at least it can beat one engine in one category.
