Question question on cavitation

I asked a question about cavitation and was told that it only occures on sleeved engines. My 250 is a 1987 6.9 and I've always thought mine didn't have sleeves.

I believe cavitation can occure on any diesel engine. The only thing when it occures on an engine that is wet sleeved you can replace the sleeve when you overhaul it. Our 7.3 and 6.9s do not come from the factory with sleeves, so when cavitation occures the bore has to be increased so a dry sleeve can be inserted.

All diesels are subject to cavitation.

20 plus to 1 compression ratios are part of what causes it.

6.9 engines have thicker cylinder walls than the 7.3 does, so it is less likely to be affected.
There is more metal that has to be eaten away.

SCA's to control cavitaion are a good idea in any diesel engine.
