97 explorer radio

I am at my wits end!

My radio worked fine. No issues. Next day got in car and radio was dead. No lights, no sound.

I bought a new radio XO Vision brand.

I bought a Schoshe wiring kit and wired it up according the instructions.

I have power. There are lights and everything but no sound. No static. Nothing.

Someone please help.

There are posts about the amp...not sure if i have one. Mine is the 97 explorer that had the 6cd changer in the console.

There is a blue wire left over and the orange one. (orange is for illumination so i assume i dont need this.)

What am I missing?

Check these three interior fuses. Fuse 20 7.5 amp mini
29 10 amp mini
34 7.5 amp mini

And under the hood in the power dist box check Fuse 1 30 amp mini.

Fuse 1 is for the amplifier if you have the JBL system.

The premium sound & the LUX/JBL are the factory systems that included the CD changer

The amplifier for all 4 speakers (no sub woofer on this one)on the premium system is behind the right rear interior panel near the door post. You should see voltage (key on or off) from fuse 29 on the light green/purple wire.

The LUX/JBL has 4 speakers plus a sub woofer. The only amplifier on this one is for the sub woofer. A bad amp on this system should only kill the sub woofer.

I think one thing 87 XLT was suggesting previously was to see if the fuse location was populated. If not, you don't have another amplifier that could be preventing sound. If so, then you need to be searching for a way to bypass that amp, or wire it in. Bypassing is generally the better option.

on our 98 mountaineer, I occasionally have to pull fuse 29 out then back in again. Radio will just stop working.

Still seems to show power and it is an aftermarket one.

OE one quit along time ago.

Recommend just pulling the fuse out and then back in and see if that does the trick.

I mean, "is there a fuse installed in that location."
